Omoyele Sowore Urges Supreme Court To Release Nnamdi Kanu
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 election, has called on the Nigerian Supreme Court to be bold enough to set the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu free. This comes as the apex court is set to hear Kanu’s appeal against his continued detention at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja.
Kanu’s appeal was filed on November 3, 2022, against the decision of the Court of Appeal, which had on October 28, 2022, stayed the execution of its earlier order acquitting him of all charges and directing his release from the custody of the secret police.
In a tweet ahead of the hearing, Sowore urged the Supreme Court to release Kanu and put an end to the impunity of the lawless, inhuman, and illegitimate Muhammadu Buhari flouting of court rulings. He called on the court to demonstrate courage and allow Nnamdi Kanu to go, using the hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNow and #Revolutionnow.
