Admission And Requirements For Studying Mechanical Engineering In The University Of Ibadan

 

Students who aspire to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ibadan (UI) have the option to gain admission through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) or other direct entry pathways like the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB).

JAMB and O’Level Requirements:

  1. JAMB Subject Requirements: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  2. O’Level Requirements: Five (5) credit passes in SSC/WAEC/NECO/NABTEB, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and any other Science subject.

Direct Entry Requirements:

  1. Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
  2. ND upper credit, NCE technical, and HND in Mechanical Engineering.

UI Cut Off Mark for Mechanical Engineering:

  1. Minimum JAMB Score: Students must score at least 200 in JAMB to qualify for the UI Post UTME.
  2. Admission Competitiveness: Achieving a JAMB score of 280 and above, as well as performing well in the UI Post UTME, significantly increases the chances of admission into the Faculty of Engineering for Mechanical Engineering.

UI Post UTME Score for Mechanical Engineering:

  1. A score of 68.5 in the UI Post UTME is considered good enough to secure admission to study Mechanical Engineering at UI.
  2. Admission Factors: Admission is dependent on various factors such as Merit, ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States) quota, and overall student performance.

UI Mechanical Engineering Aggregate Score:

  1. Calculation: The UI admission aggregate score is determined by dividing the JAMB score by 8 and the Post UTME score by 2, and then summing them up.
  2. Higher Scores, Higher Chances: Higher JAMB and Post UTME scores result in higher average aggregate scores, increasing the likelihood of admission.

Other Direct Entry Options:

  1. JUPEB Program: Students can gain admission to study Mechanical Engineering through the JUPEB program, which involves a 1-year (2-semester) course. Successful candidates proceed to 200 level.
  2. JAMB Direct Entry: Students who have studied other courses previously can apply for direct entry admission into 200 level for Mechanical Engineering.

Duration of Study: It takes 5 years to complete a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Ibadan, with an additional year for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

UI School Fees for Mechanical Engineering: The current school fees for Mechanical Engineering students at UI is ₦36,800.
