Yes, the University of Ibadan (UI) is fully accredited to offer Physiotherapy in Nigeria. If you aspire to become a Physiotherapist, UI is an excellent choice for your studies. You can gain admission to study Physiotherapy in UI through JAMB or other direct entry options like JUPEB.

  1. Requirements to Study Physiotherapy in UI

To study Physiotherapy in UI, you must meet the following JAMB and O’ level subject requirements:

JAMB Subject Requirements:

  • Use of English
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

O’ level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) Requirements:

  • Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Direct Entry Requirements:

  • Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes chosen from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Note: Mathematics is not required in JAMB for those who want to study Physiotherapy in UI.

  1. UI Cut Off Mark for Physiotherapy

To be eligible for Post UTME in UI’s College of Medicine to study Physiotherapy, you must score at least 200 in JAMB. However, since Physiotherapy is a relatively competitive course, it is recommended to aim for a JAMB score of 270 and above. Additionally, performing well in the UI Post UTME Exam is crucial for admission.

  1. Post UTME Score for Physiotherapy in UI

To secure admission to study Physiotherapy in UI, a Post UTME score of 70 or above is considered favorable. Admissions are based on various factors such as Merit, ELDS, and general student performance. Students admitted on the merit list typically need to score well above the aggregate score for Physiotherapy.

  1. UI Physiotherapy Aggregate Score

The aggregate score for admission into Physiotherapy in UI is 66.5. To calculate your UI admission aggregate score, divide your JAMB score by 8 and your Post UTME score by 2, then sum them up. A higher JAMB and Post UTME score will result in a higher average aggregate score, increasing your chances of admission.

  1. Other Direct Entry Requirements

JUPEB Program for Physiotherapy in UI: Aside from JAMB, you can also gain admission to study Physiotherapy through the JUPEB program. JUPEB stands for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board. Candidates interested in this option need to purchase the JUPEB form, sit for the entrance exam, and successfully complete the 1-year program (2 semesters). Upon completion, you will be admitted to study Physiotherapy from 200 level.

JAMB Direct Entry: If you have previously studied other courses and now wish to pursue Physiotherapy, you can apply through JAMB direct entry and be admitted to 200 level. You must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree (second class Hons) in Chemistry or the biological sciences from a recognized university

The study of Physiotherapy in the University of Ibadan (UI) spans a period of 5 years. This includes rigorous academic coursework, practical training, and clinical rotations. In addition to the 5-year program, there is a compulsory 1-year internship and a 1-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, bringing the total study duration to 7 years.
