NELFUND Clarifies Upkeep Loan Disbursement and Application Process

This article provides detailed information for prospective applicants interested in pursuing postgraduate programs at Edo State University Uzairue. The following are the courses offered and the admission requirements for each program:

A. Faculty of Arts, Management, and Social Sciences

  1. Department of Accounting

a) Postgraduate Diploma Programs:

  • Five credits in English Language and Mathematics at the ‘O’ level/SSCE.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related fields from reputable universities with at least a Third Class Division.
  • Candidates with a Higher National Diploma (HND) or professional qualifications in relevant fields will be considered.

Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

b) Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Accounting:

  • First degree in Accounting or a related field from a reputable university, preferably with a Second Class Lower division.
  • Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from a recognized university will also be considered.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

  1. Department of Economics

a) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Economics:

  • Five credits in English and Mathematics at the ‘O’ level or SSCE.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with at least a third-class honors.
  • HND and/or professional qualifications related to Economics from a recognized institution.

Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

b) Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Economics:

  • Minimum Second Class Lower bachelor’s degree in Economics from an accredited university.
  • Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from a reputable university will be considered.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

c) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics:

  • Minimum Second Class Lower bachelor’s degree in Economics.
  • CGPA of at least 4.0 on a 5.0-point scale or a B grade (60%) for an Economics Master’s (M.Sc.) degree.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

Areas of Specialization for PhD in Economics:

  • Applied Econometrics
  • International Trade & Finance
  • Development Economics & Planning
  • Monetary Economics
  • Public Sector Economics
  • Petroleum Economics
  1. Department of History and International Studies

a) Master of Arts (M.A.) Program:

  • Five credits at the ‘O’ level, including Mathematics, English, History, and Government.
  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History, History and International Studies, History and Diplomatic Studies, History and International Relations, or History and Strategic Studies, or a closely related field, with at least a Second Class Lower Division qualification.

Duration: Minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

b) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program:

  • Master’s degree in History or its variants from a recognized university, with a B grade (60%) or a CGPA not below 3.5 on a five-point scale.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

Specialization in PhD History and International Studies:

  • Social and Political History
  • International Trade & Finance
  • Economic and Labour History
  • Environmental and Medical History
  • International Studies
  1. Department of Political Science and Public Administration

a) Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Political Science:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science or a closely related field with at least a Second Class Lower Division.
  • Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Political Science or a closely related field will also be considered.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

b) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science:

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or other related subject areas from Edo University Iyamho or other recognized universities with at least 60% or a CGPA of at least 3.50 on a 5.0 scale.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

B. Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences

  1. Department of Biochemistry

a) Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry:

  • B.Sc. in Biochemistry with at least a Second Class Lower grade or its equivalent.
  • Five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics at no more than two sittings on the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) exam.

Duration: Minimum of three (3) semesters (18 months) and a maximum of six (6) semesters (36 months).

b) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry:

  • M.Sc. in Biochemistry with a minimum average of 60% in the Master’s program.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters (36 months) and a maximum of ten (10) semesters (60 months).

C. Faculty of Science

  1. Department of Computer Science

a) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Computer Science:

  • Five Credit Passes at the ‘O’ level, including English, Mathematics, and two additional science subjects.
  • Equivalent of a Third-Class Honors degree from an accredited university or Higher National Diploma (HND).
  • Professional qualifications like CPN CPE, ACCA, ICCA, ICAN, AIB, or recognized equivalents with relevant industrial experience.

Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

b) Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science:

  • Five credits in English, Mathematics, and two other science subjects at the ‘O’ level.
  • First degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or Data Science/Management from Edo State University Uzairue or any recognized university with at least a Second Class (Lower Division) or its equivalent.
  • Admission requirements may include additional undergraduate courses to bridge any preparation gaps.

Duration: Minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

c) Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Computer Science:

  • Research-based program for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months.
  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

d) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science:

  • Five credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and GCE at Ordinary Level.
  • Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science with a weighted average of 60% or a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

  1. Department of Microbiology

a) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Program in Microbiology:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or a closely related field from Edo University Iyamho or any recognized university, not less than Third Class Honors.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in Microbiology or related disciplines.
  • Five credit passes in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the ‘O’ level.

Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

b) Master of Science (M.Sc.) Program in Microbiology:

  • Second Class Lower Division or its equivalent in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Agricultural Biology, Biology, or Botany.
  • Five credit passes in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the ‘O’ level.

Duration: Minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

c) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Microbiology:

  • Minimum CGPA of 3.5 or 60% average grade in an M.Sc. in Microbiology.
  • Five credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the ‘O’ level.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

These are the postgraduate programs offered at Edo State University Uzairue along with their respective admission requirements and durations for the academic year 2023/2024.
