Marketing is the process of discovering, developing, and delivering value to meet the needs of a target market in terms of products and services. It involves various activities such as selecting a target audience, emphasizing specific qualities or themes in advertising, running advertising campaigns, participating in trade shows and public events, designing consumer-appealing products and packaging, and defining sales terms like purchase price, discounts, warranties, and return policies.

Marketing is a course that can be studied by both science and art students and is offered by the majority of Nigerian universities’ faculty of administration. However, before applying for the course at any Nigerian university, make sure to review this article to see if you meet the requirements.

Here are the compulsory JAMB subjects for Marketing:

  4. Commerce or Government

UTME Requirements to Study Marketing in Nigeria:

To study Marketing in Nigeria, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Obtain at least a CREDIT pass in English and Mathematics in no more than two (2) sittings in your O’level results (WAEC, NABTEB, or NECO). Some schools may require a single sitting.
  2. Attain the age of sixteen (16) by the last day of October in the admissions year.
  3. Fulfill the marketing requirements of your chosen school.
  4. Have strong results from JAMB, WAEC, and any post-UTME exams.

Direct Entry Requirements to Study Marketing in Nigeria:

For Direct Entry admission into a Marketing program, you need to fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Have a minimum of five (5) credits in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE/GCE) Ordinary Level in a maximum of two (2) sittings.
  2. Hold a degree in a related discipline with a First Class or Second Class Upper.
  3. Obtain the Direct Entry form from the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and your chosen university.
  4. Possess an Advanced Level Certificate with at least a Merit Pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), or any relevant Advanced Level Certificate.
  5. Have any additional qualifications equivalent to the above requirements, as accepted by the Senate of the university. Candidates must also meet specific Faculty/Departmental entry requirements in addition to the minimum admission requirements mentioned above.
