A Civil Society Organisation in Niger State under the auspices of Civil Society Working on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has facilitated the supply of malaria commodities to over one hundred communities across Niger State as part of its effort to reduce the incidence rate of malaria.
While making this known, State Coordinator of ACOMIN, Kalejaiye Olasunkanmi also called on governments at all levels to increase the budgetary allocation for hospital infrastructure to the fight against malaria.
Speaking during a Press briefing on the Global Fund Malaria Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) Project being implemented by ACOMIN in Minna, Kalejaiye said “to tackle the increase in the incidence rate of malaria, urgent action and collective effort from the public is needed.”
Accordingly, he said “since we started this project, we have covered 108 communities and they have benefitted from robust engagement and constant supplies of malaria commodities across Niger State through the CLM.”
He raised the alarm that malaria parasites have developed resistance to drugs and called on government agencies to allocate and release funds for malaria intervention.
Accordingly, he said “government at all levels need to increase the budgetary allocation for hospital infrastructure and equipment, implement effective recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain skilled health professionals and Prioritize the development of basic needs.”
Kalejaiye further disclosed that ACOMIN has been able to educate community members on the need to be proactive in tackling malaria. Adding that “ACOMIN has facilitated constant supply of malaria commodities across various facilities”.
