JAMB Officially Announce Best Candidate in 2023 UTME Exam

The 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) results were announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Nkechinyere Umeh, a female candidate from Anambra state, secured the highest cumulative mark of 360. This information was disclosed during the 2023 policy meeting for tertiary institutions held in Abuja.

During the presentation, Prof. Oloyede also revealed the top 10 candidates, including Stephen Aguele from Edo state, who came in second place with a score of 358, and Oluwafemi Ositade from Osun state, who scored 358 as well and secured the third position. Gbolahan Ayinde from Lagos state scored 357, John Fulfilment from Edo state scored 356, and Chimdubem Ugonna from Imo scored 355, among others.

In addition to announcing the top performers, Prof. Oloyede highlighted the most sought-after universities for the 2023 UTME. The University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos topped the list due to their high number of applicants during the application period. The rankings also included Lagos State University in third place and Federal University, Oye-Ekiti in fourth place.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo, emphasized that the policy meeting aimed to establish the modalities and guidelines for the 2023 admissions to tertiary institutions. He acknowledged the introduction of various initiatives to update existing systems and called for institutions to maintain flexibility in the admission process without compromising integrity.

Adejo praised the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) implemented by JAMB, which revolutionized the admission process, eliminated administrative bottlenecks, and provided a seamless interface for applicants and institutions. He urged institutions to adhere to JAMB’s advisories and emphasized the importance of complying with regulations to curb illegal admissions.

The policy meeting also addressed the Condonement of Undisclosed Illegal Institutional Admission (CUIIA) platform, which JAMB provided for admissions conducted outside of CAPS between 2017 and 2020. However, any admission issued outside of CAPS beyond 2020 would not be condoned, and severe sanctions would be imposed on violators.

Representatives from various educational bodies, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Vice Chancellors of Universities, Rectors of Polytechnics, Provosts of Colleges of Education (COE), Registrars, Admission Officers of tertiary institutions, heads of federal agencies, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), attended the policy meeting.
