The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commended the Super Falcons’s effort following their defeat to England via penalty shoot-out in the Round of 16 on Monday.
Goldennewsng reports that England beat Nigeria 4-2 on penalties on Monday to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup after their last-16 tie finished 0-0 at the end of extra time.
Speaking with reporters after the match, the First Lady hailed the team for the impressive performance at the tournament, saying that she is very proud of them.
Tinubu, who was in the company of the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, and the wife of the Senate President Ekaette Akpabio, noted that the match was not easy for England noting that Nigeria played well.
She said, “I want to say that they played very well and we are proud of them. We gave England a run for their money and so we will be waiting to receive them.
“The match wasn’t easy for England. It was like a bonus to them and they really played fine soccer.”
The wife of the President, therefore, assured the team of her continued support for the team.
