Academy of Cosmetology Minimum Outcomes Thresholds

According to NACCAS’ Standard I, an institution needs to meet or surpass specific measures for student success. These include achieving at least a:

==>70% pass rate on licensure exams.

1. To apply, complete the application and pay a $165.00 fee ($100 non-refundable).

2. Include a typed essay covering all required topics.

3. Provide a copy of your high school graduation certificate or equivalent (GED/HiSET) and transcripts.

4. Submit two professional recommendation letters (not from family or friends).

5. Include a copy of your driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate.

6. Transfer students should provide certified transcripts of their hours from the previous school.

After the school receives all your admission paperwork, you will be contacted for acceptance into the Academy.

What is the Academy of Cosmetology Tuition and cost?

The school tuition covers the cost of two uniforms, books, workbooks, study guides, and a graduation kit. Students and their immediate families also enjoy discounted services.

The Academy of Cosmetology has classes starting every Tuesday, and some programs may offer early entry. Evening programs are available as well.

Here is a breakdown of the fees:

==>Application Fee: $100 (non-refundable)

==>Registration Fee: $65

==>Lab Fee: $325

Academy of Cosmetology Program Details

1. The program spans 1500 hours with a school week of 36.5 hours. Classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and either Wednesday or Thursday from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, allowing for weekends off.

2. Tuition covers a non-refundable registration fee of $200.00, textbooks, a professional Cosmetology/Hairdressing Kit with the necessary equipment, the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia Student Card Fee, and the Provincial Exam fee.

3. Upon completing the program, you will be awarded a Diploma in Cosmetology/Hairdressing, qualifying you to take the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia Provincial Exam.

  • Apply and work with advanced techniques in hair cutting and design.
  • Apply the theory and practical aspects of hair color, including specialty techniques like foils, three-dimensional color, highlighting, and pre-lightening applications.
  • Apply the principles of permanent waving.
  • Learn and adapt to new concepts developed in the industry.
  • Receive training in all aspects of hairstyling.
  • Understand the scientific approach to chemicals and their reactions to the hair and skin.
  • Demonstrate client consultation skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Learn and perform reception duties, retail sales, and salon management/entrepreneurial skills.
  • Bonus short courses in skincare and makeup are offered alongside the study of professional image.
