Reverend Richard Peters, the Media Assistant to Gov. Udom Emmanuel, has described the social media claims that Governor Emmanuel gave an order that Senator Akpabio’s wife, Unoma, should not be allowed entrance into the government house as low-cost blackmail and publicity-grabbing attempts by the peddler.
Goldennewsng reports that An article that was posted on Ata Ikiddeh’s Facebook wall made the claim that Mrs. Unoma Akpabio was not permitted entry to the Government House, Uyo on the orders of Gov. Emmanuel. Ikiddeh was an ex-aide to Godswill Akpabio, the former governor.
He claimed that Mrs. Akpabio was on her way to the government building to hand Gov. Emmanuel a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, the letter contained the president’s communication to the governor regarding his (Buhari’s) decisions regarding police reforms and other demands made by Nigerian youths during the EndSARS protests. He added that a similar letter had also been sent to other governors.
However, in a press conference on Monday, Udom’s media assistant Peters stated that Ikiddeh’s tardy outburst “was just to seek attention and publicity after years of being politically irrelevant.”
“This is ridiculous. The article is false because, as we are all aware, Udom Emmanuel would never do that.
Governor Emmanuel does not hold grudges. He works well with everyone. For example, Umana O Umana is of the resistance APC yet has a decent connection with Gov. Emmanuel who is in PDP. Unoma Akpabio would not have been an exception, as there are others from the opposition APC who meet with the governor at the government house.
The Media Aide said that Akpabio, who was minister of Niger Delta affairs at the time, was supposed to give the letter to Governor Emmanuel personally, but he gave it to his wife to treat the governor poorly.
In addition, the ministers were to deliver the ensuing letter to their respective governors and discuss ways to address the country’s security situation at the time. The other ministers all gave speeches on their own. To deliver his, even Rotimi Amaechi went to the Rivers State government building. That alone demonstrates respect for the governor’s position. Akpabio sent his better half, who was not a pastor, in that frame of mind of the president’s orders. However, at this time, we are not focusing on that.
It is important to note that Akpabio sent his wife to make fun of Gov. Udom Emmanuel. He did that intentionally with the intention of humiliating the governor and possibly conveying the message that Gov. Emmanuel does not deserve to sit with him. Each right-thinking person who was in Gov. Emmanuel’s shoes would have stayed away from such a gathering.
According to Akpabio’s aide, “Gov. Emmanuel did not in any way treat Unoma Akpabio with disdain.” He isn’t like that. He wouldn’t have started then because he doesn’t play politics with relationships. Concerned at the time, the governor was willing to discuss ways to end the Endsars protest. Peters added.
