For alleged “anti-party activities,” the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has called for the suspension of former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomole and Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi.
Goldennewsng reports that when the party’s stalwarts went to Rivers State on the invitation of Governor Nyesom Wike to commission some projects, the party accused them of being involved in anti-party activities.
The pair had stated separately that they would not be supporting the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State when they commissioned the projects.
During the commissioning of the Rumuepirikorm-Ada George Flyover on November 16, 2022, Oshiomole stated, “I have seen the reason why Governor Wike used to win APC in Rivers State.” Wike was able to win my party because he works with young people who are very strong and enthusiastic. Wike, would you please allow me to travel with some of them from Rivers State to Edo State?
Governor Umahi was quoted as saying, “Governor Wike you have tried so much, the only day you will see me in Rivers State campaigning is the day we will come here for the Presidential Campaign, apart from that, you will not see me again because you will win all other positions” on November 22, 2022, while commissioning the Akpabu-Omudioga-Egbeda road.
Emeka Beke, Rivers State chairman of the APC, stated in a protest letter dated November 23, 2022, that the party has become a laughing stock in the state as a result of the activities of those he described as disgruntled party leaders whose anti-party activities run in their veins. The letter was addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Adamu Abdullahi.
The APC state chairman stated that it was disheartening that these party leaders openly make “scandalous remarks” whenever they visit Rivers State, demoralizing the spirited and coordinated effort of APC members in Rivers State in an effort to please Governor Wike.
Beke argued in the letter that party members in Rivers State are no longer satisfied with the aforementioned anti-party activities and called for sanctions to be imposed on the two party leaders.
The letter began with the words: Concerning the aforementioned complaints, we demand the following:
1. Within seven days, an unreserved public apology from H.E. Adams Oshiomole and H.E. Dave Umahi during a live television program.
“2. a letter warning or suspending H.E. Adams Oshiomole and H.E. Dave Umahi for their anti-party activities.
“3. a directive attached to the sanction stating that anyone traveling to Rivers State on Governor Wike’s invitation must stop disparaging and campaigning against APC candidates there.
“In conclusion, Sir, we wish to inform you that we will resort to controlling our own destiny if this matter is not handled appropriately and our positions above are not granted and implemented. Keep in mind that we are free to travel to Edo and Ebonyi States to respond to H.E. Adams Oshiomole and H.E. Dave Umahi and to romance the opposition.
