APC Chieftain Begs Tinubu to do Something Urgently As Price Of Cooking Gas In Nigeria Soars
GoldenNewsNg gathered that a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has voiced his concerns over the soaring price of cooking gas in Nigeria, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter. Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye highlighted the severe economic strain faced by Nigerians who are grappling with the high cost of food alongside the escalating prices of cooking gas.
Oyintiloye, a former member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, emphasized the burden imposed on citizens by the exorbitant cost of cooking gas, noting that the price for refilling a 12.5kg gas cylinder now ranges between N17,500 and N18,000 in various parts of the country.
Despite the announcement by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, on February 22 regarding the halt on exports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) following the government’s directive, Oyintiloye observed that this action has yet to translate into a noticeable reduction in local gas prices.
Expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s responsiveness to the plight of Nigerians, Oyintiloye urged urgent action to address the challenges faced by citizens in accessing affordable cooking gas amidst other economic hardships such as fuel subsidy removal and unstable electricity supply.
Attributing the escalating gas prices to potential clandestine exportation by LPG producers, Oyintiloye stressed the necessity of reducing the cost of cooking gas, underscoring the detrimental environmental impacts associated with the widespread use of solid fuels like charcoal and firewood.
He warned against exacerbating climate change challenges and related adverse effects such as deforestation, desertification, and soil degradation, which could lead to erosion and pose health risks such as respiratory issues and reduced overall well-being due to inadequate oxygen supply.
Highlighting the symbiotic relationship between humans and green plants for oxygen exchange, Oyintiloye cautioned against compromising this balance by resorting to deforestation for fuel sources.
Commending President Tinubu for his efforts in stabilizing the naira against the dollar, Oyintiloye called on Nigerians to rally behind Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing optimism that with patience, endurance, prayers, and support, the country will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.
