The Federal Government, through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has officially launched the digital registration portal for Phase Two of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI) aimed at reducing youth unemployment in Nigeria.

What Is the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative?

The RHEI is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda — a promise made during the 2023 election campaigns to empower Nigerian youths with practical, marketable skills that can lead to real job creation and self-employment.

Speaking at the official launch in Abuja, the Director-General of NDE, Mr. Silas Agara, explained that this phase will be entirely digital, allowing applicants from all 36 states and the FCT to register from the comfort of their homes or at any of the job centres nationwide.

“After the success of Phase One, we have upgraded our infrastructure and digitized the process to reach even more Nigerians,” Agara stated.
“We’ve deployed reliable hardware, software, and internet connectivity to all 37 job centres across the country to ensure seamless operations.”

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be between 18 and 45 years old

  • Possess a valid NIN (National Identification Number)

  • Reside in Nigeria, whether in their state of origin or elsewhere

  • Be unemployed or underemployed, and willing to learn a new skill

What Will You Learn?

The training focuses on over 30 vocational and digital skills carefully selected based on each state’s economic needs. For instance, what’s relevant in Lagos may differ from what’s needed in Taraba or Anambra.

“Our goal is to create local impact,” said Agara.
“The training curriculum is designed to match the specific opportunities within each state, maximizing the chances of employment and entrepreneurship.”

Participants will be trained in areas such as:

  • Digital marketing & e-commerce

  • Web design & programming

  • Plumbing, carpentry, and welding

  • Fashion & tailoring

  • Phone repairs & solar installation

  • Agribusiness and food processing
    …and many more.

Registration Timeline & Key Dates

  • Portal Opened: July 28, 2025

  • Application Deadline: August 11, 2025

  • Application Processing: August 12 – 22, 2025

  • No extensions will be granted, so don’t delay!

Important Warning: NDE has emphasized that registration is completely free. Do not pay anyone or share your personal details with unauthorized individuals.

“Report any suspicious activity to your nearest job centre or the NDE headquarters,” Agara warned.
“We want to ensure this process is fair, transparent, and secure for all applicants.”

Why This Matters: Expert Speaks on Sustainability

While the initiative is widely praised, youth development expert Dipo Daniels emphasized the importance of sustainability and proper monitoring to ensure the long-term impact of the program.

“Training is just the first step,” Daniels told Legit.ng.
“If the government implements strong sustainability and impact assessment measures, this initiative could genuinely transform lives and reduce youth unemployment in Nigeria.”

In a time when unemployment and underemployment are among the top concerns of Nigerian youth, the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative comes as a much-needed relief and a gateway to financial independence.

Whether you’re a fresh graduate, school leaver, or someone who simply wants to upskill and increase your chances of getting a job, this free training program could be your turning point.

Bonus Tip: Stay Informed About Nigeria’s Economic Policies

In related news, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu recently announced that the federal government will no longer sustain electricity subsidies, urging Nigerians to brace for cost-reflective tariffs. According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), only 15% of users currently pay full rates.

This shift reinforces the importance of acquiring skills that can increase your income and help you manage the rising cost of living.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

2. Do I need to pay to register?
