Popular Labour Party supporter, Chude Nnamdi, with Twitter handle @chude__, who was arrested during the just concluded governorship and state house of assembly elections has shared his experience while he was being detained.
It was reported that Chude in a post shared on Twitter said he met lots of inmates whose stories broke his heart and many have spent five to eight months for bailable offenses.
According to him, barely a month after his exit from the CID custody in Abuja, he has helped three people to regain freedom.
Chude noted that many innocent people are perishing due to the poor nature of the Nigerian judiciary and the slow system.
He said: “While in detention at the Force CID Abuja, I met a lot of inmates whose stories broke my heart. Some have spent 5-8 months in the cell for bailable offenses & many abandoned.
I promised myself to help as many as I can & so far, I’ve helped 3 inmates regain their freedom. There’re many poor inmates who have been there for months because they can’t afford a lawyer or find a sureties. Many of them are there for light offences and many are also innocent.
“Lot of innocent people are perishing due to the Nigeria Judiciary poor and slow system. I’ve been helping some the forgotten inmates financially since then.
Many of the inmates there survive by begging with No hope or external help. I don’t think I can put everything in writing, it’s tough, very tough.”
