Gabriel becomes Arsenal’s second major arrival following his Brazilian teammate Willian’s free transfer from Chelsea last month.
Interestingly, Gabriel is the second player to join the Gunners from Lille in the past year after Ivory Coast international, Nicolas Pepe’s move last summer.
Arsenal was able to beat off a late Manchester United completion to complete the deal. Everton and Napoli were also rumoured to have shown an interest in the highly rated defender who made 34 appearances in all competitions for Lille last season.
