As IPOB declares war against unknown gunmen

RECENT events across the South East geopolitical zone have shown that the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has started heeding to the words of Igbo leaders on the way forward for a lasting peace, including their all important intervention to ensure quick release of the detained leader of the pro Biafra group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Nnamdi Kanu: Northern Coalition seeks audience with Buhari

The Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) has sought an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari to present a case for northerners violated and killed in a series of attacks allegedly incited and coordinated by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) leadership.

Dr Nastura Ashir Shariff who issued a statement on behalf of northerners displaced by the attacks since 2017 said the group took a cue from the visit of Igbo leaders to the president.

A delegation of Igbo leaders had visited President Muhammadu Buhari demanding an unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu who is facing trials on treason charges.

In his response, President Buhari said the delegation made an extremely difficult demand considering the principle of separation of power but added that he would consider it.

IPOB alleges abduction, detention of members by military

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Saturday accused the Nigerian military of abducting and detaining its members in secret cells, especially in Kaduna State.

In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB asked the people looking for their family members to check various detention facilities in Kaduna, and Abuja.

Other places listed by the group are Obinze-Owerri, Bori Camp in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, 82 Division Enugu, and the Nigerian Army barracks in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

The statement read: “Biafrans with any case of a missing family member, to go to Kaduna State and check if they could be found there.

“We gathered that some of those abducted from Obigbo in Rivers State last year as well as some of the Biafrans being abducted in Imo State are also in various secret detention cells in Kaduna.

“It has come to the knowledge of IPOB that about 95 innocent citizens of Obigbo were discovered in Kaduna, 257 others kidnapped from Orlu, Imo State.

“Members of the public are also invited to go and check their missing ones in different army detention centres in Abuja.

“IPOB intelligence unit will not relent in the efforts towards unravelling the various secret cells and detention facilities where our people are hidden and locked up to rot away.

“We, therefore, put the world on notice of the fresh discovery of 95 abducted Obigbo and Orlu residents including six females and 89 males in Kaduna Prisons and secret cells in Abuja.

“We discovered newly army abductees, including one Ugochukwu, who we discovered died as a result of severe torture. Over 257 others are still missing till today.”
