Many people are paying their respects to Bongani Njoli, a radio icon and the “voice of e.tv.”
Noli passed away on Sunday at about 11 in the morning due to health problems.
The Cape Town resident, who is now 52 years old and hails from the neighborhood of Langa, has had short spells with radio stations such as UCT Radio, Good Hope FM, Heart 104.9fm, and Magic 828 AM.
However, the ou was most well-known for providing their voice to the advertisements that were shown on e.tv. Who among us can forget that recognizable voice announcing things like “Tonight on e” and “Friday action night,” amongst other memorable lines?
Sharon Lause Mrawuli, who has been Njoli’s girlfriend for the last 21 years, said that he would be leaving his daughter Tembisa Bavuma, who is 24 years old.
Maruti said in an interview with IOL Entertainment that in recent years, Njoli has been “forgotten.”
She continued by saying, “I shall miss his voice, of course, as well as his grin. He was the only buddy I had, and we spent a lot of time together hanging around and listening to his old music. Because he was so modest, he was not the kind of guy to nurse grudges. It was clear to see when he was in love.
She went on to say that “his mom is still alive and she’s 92, the family is not doing well.”
“It seems like most people, including e.tv, have forgotten about him.”
According to a statement made by one of Njoli’s former coworkers, “For almost 17 years, he served as the official voice of e.tv. People really enjoyed seeing his TV commercials. Then, in the most recent few years, he had a lot of trouble finding employment, radio stations stopped working with him, and he was in a difficult situation.
I convinced him to participate in the new television program that we are producing at UWC called UWC On Air, and he was just as intelligent and polished as he had been in the past. He thought it was wonderful.
When we were recording voice-over sessions, I picked him up in Langa and left him off at home, so we had a lot of time to chat with one another. Just a month ago, we had a conversation about how challenging things were for him.
“He seemed weak and aged, a mere shadow of the guy I remember,” the speaker said.
