20 Soldiers has been Killed In Deadly Bandit Attack On Military Camp In Niger State

At least 20 soldiers have been reportedly killed following a deadly attack by armed bandits on a military camp near Bangi, in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

GoldenNewsNg reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during what security sources described as a surprise ambush launched by heavily armed attackers.

“Today, about 20 soldiers were killed by armed bandits near Bangi, Mariga LGA of Niger State in an early morning attack on their camp,” a military source told SaharaReporters.

Photographs of the slain soldiers were obtained by SaharaReporters, though the Nigerian Army has yet to issue any official statement regarding the incident.

It was gathered that the armed men engaged the troops in a sustained gunfight before eventually overrunning the camp. Several soldiers were also injured in the encounter.

The attack has heightened fear among residents of the area, many of whom have reportedly begun fleeing their communities in anticipation of further violence.

The Niger State incident comes just hours after GoldenNewsNg earlier reported another bandit attack along a highway in Zamfara State, where an unconfirmed number of military personnel were killed. Among those killed in that operation was an officer identified as Lieutenant Isma’il Yahya.

In a related development, armed men stormed Tofa village in the Magami district of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where they reportedly killed more than 15 civilians. Several others were injured, and some residents remain missing.

Tofa, located near the state capital Gusau, has suffered repeated attacks by bandits who reportedly impose levies on local communities. Many villagers have abandoned the area due to a lack of security presence.

A source told SaharaReporters that the attack in Tofa occurred on Sunday, noting that troops who responded were also ambushed and killed.

“The bandits on Sunday attacked the community; they ambushed the troops and killed many of them. The families of the dead soldiers have been informed, but the army has been silent on the incident.

“In Tofa, over 15 people were massacred, many others were injured, and some were nowhere to be found,” the source said.

As of the time of filing this report, the military has not released any official update concerning the two incidents.
