The pupils and staff of Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti, who were kidnapped, have been freed. The Ekiti State Police Command Spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, confirmed their release on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it was revealed that the driver did not survive.
The abductees were reportedly released in the early hours of Sunday, following their abduction on Monday evening along Emure – Eporo Road. The incident occurred while they were returning to Eporo after school. The kidnappers shot at the bus, kidnapped nine individuals – five students, three female teachers, and a driver – and later released them.
According to the police PPRO, all the victims were rescued around 1.30 am, but regrettably, the driver was suspectedly killed by the abductors. A government official in Emure Ekiti confirmed the release, stating that the abductees, along with their parents and family members, were present, promising to provide more details shortly.
Additionally, a source verified the development, mentioning that officials from the state Ministry of Health were present to transport the released individuals to Ado Ekiti, the state capital, for medical attention.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji assured the parents and families of the kidnapped pupils and staff from Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti that they would soon be rescued and reunited.
