Kano Government Orders Demolition of Ado-Bayero’s Palace

In a surprising development, the Kano State Government has mandated the demolition of the palace of Aminu Ado-Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano. This decision, as announced by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, is part of a broader plan to renovate the historic site.

Dederi revealed that the Commissioner of Police has been instructed to remove Emir Ado-Bayero from his current residence at the Nasarawa GRA mini palace. During a press conference, Dederi emphasized that the government has “concluded arrangements for the general reconstruction and renovation of the property, including the demolishing and reconstruction of the dilapidated wall fence with immediate effect.”

GoldenNewsNg reports that this  move comes just hours after a significant ruling by the Federal High Court. The court validated the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 but nullified all actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf following the passage of the law. The timing of the demolition order has raised questions and sparked discussions about the implications of these legal and political developments in Kano State.
