1. Ondo 2020 : INEC commences distribution of sensitive materials

Following the preparation for the  Ondo 2020 election, today, INEC officials could be seen conveying election materials to different wards.

The Ondo state gubernatorial election will see 17 candidate contest for the seat.

However there are three major contenders; Rotimi Akeredolu, incumbent governor who is seeking reelection under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor, who is running under the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

2. Ondo 2020: IG orders restriction of vehicular movement

The Inspector-General of Police, (I-G) Mohammed Adamu has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from 11.59 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 in Ondo State. The order is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba on Friday in Abuja.

3. ONDO DECIDES: NSCDC deploys 60 sniffer dogs, 7,079 personnel for governorship poll

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) said it has deployed no fewer than 7,079 personnel and 60 sniffer dogs to provide security for the Saturday governorship election in Ondo state.

Eleven of the 18 council areas in Ondo State have been identified as possible flashpoints for violence ahead of the governorship election scheduled for today.

Speaking in Akure, during the pre-election briefing, the Co-chair, Yiaga Africa, an election watchdog, Dr Aisha Abdullahi said it was concerned about the seeming helplessness and failure of security agents to curb acts of lawlessness and impunity being perpetrated by armed political thugs and political actors during campaigns. Abdullahi, said that the pre-election environment was signposted by violent campaign rhetoric and hate speech.

1. Ondo State was created on February 3, 1976 by the military regime of Murtala Mohammed from the former Western State that currently constitutes the Southwest region aside from Lagos State.

2. The state has 18 local government areas, with its capital in Akure.

3. The name of the Government House in Akure is Alagbaka Government House.

4. The three senatorial districts in the state have equal number of local government areas.
