Dapo Abiodun’s election as the governor of Ogun State has been upheld by the Supreme Court, dismissing the appeal made by Ladi Adebutu and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The appellants had urged the apex court to mandate the Independent National Electoral Commission to organize new elections in the 99 polling units where they claimed elections were canceled.
The Lagos Division of the Appeal Court had previously, on November 24, 2023, confirmed Abiodun’s re-election in a divided ruling.
The majority judgment, delivered by Justice Joseph Ikyegh, rejected the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate. Reading the lead judgment, Justice Tijani Abubakar also dismissed the appeal.
