Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reportedly gone missing under suspicious circumstances, shortly after confronting Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over an alleged fraudulent loan deduction from his mother’s account.

According to emerging reports, VDMwas allegedly arrested by unknown gunmen shortly after visiting a GTBank branch to lodge a complaint. The incident has sparked concern online, with many calling for transparency and accountability regarding his sudden disappearance.

A few days prior to the incident, VeryDarkMan shared a video on his social media platforms expressing frustration and anger over what he described as unauthorized loan deductions from his mother’s bank account. In the video, his mother could be seen in distress, tearfully explaining how her account had been repeatedly debited since January 2025, for a loan she insisted she never applied for.

Visibly upset, VDM vowed to take action and personally escorted his mother to GTBank to resolve the issue. The now-viral video showed him demanding answers and warning the bank against exploiting unsuspecting customers, especially the elderly and uninformed.

Following that public outburst, sources claim VDM was seen heading out of the bank branch but was later allegedly taken by unidentified men suspected to be plain-clothed operatives or hired individuals. As of the time of this report, his whereabouts remain unknown, and no official arrest has been confirmed by the Nigerian Police Force, GTBank, or any relevant authority.

Family members and friends have reportedly not been able to reach him, raising fears over his safety and prompting calls for urgent intervention.

Public Outcry and Online Reaction

The news of his disappearance has set social media abuzz, with the hashtag #FreeVeryDarkMan trending across multiple platforms. Many Nigerians, including activists, celebrities, and legal experts, are demanding an immediate investigation into the incident.

Some users believe the arrest may be an act of intimidation, aimed at silencing VDM’s growing influence and fearless advocacy, especially when it involves powerful institutions.

Still No Word from GTBank

As of this publication, GTBank has not released any official statement addressing the allegations made by VDM or the events that followed. Attempts to reach their corporate communications office for comment have been unsuccessful.

Supporters and civil society groups are now calling on the Inspector General of Police and human rights organizations to investigate the matter and ensure VDM’s safety urgently.

The situation remains tense, and many fear this may be another case of enforced disappearance due to activism and public criticism of corporate malpractice.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
