Frank Lampard announced at the press conference after the FA Cup match against Morecambe that the centre-back Fikayo Tomori will have to go on loan in this winter market. Earlier, it had leaked that the youngster had requested a temporary loan to gain prominence.
Tomori wants to go on loan from Chelsea to gain prominence and Lampard agrees. It is hoped that there will be an agreement soon with some club so that the young centre-back goes to another club to build his experience and return to Chelsea as a starter in the future.
“The situation with Fikayo is a bit open at the moment. There is a possibility that he could go on loan to get minutes in another place. That would have to be the right solution for him and the club. It was part of my thinking that he wouldn’t play at the start, but I gave him a few minutes at the end,” explained the coach in his post-FA Cup appearance against Morecambe.
The player, as reported by ‘The Athletic’, had requested his temporary departure, so they think the same. At 23 years old, it would not be the first time he leaves the club on loan to try to earn a place in the first team. He has been working to achieve this since 2015-16, when he made his debut with the ‘seniors’.
“I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for us as a club and for him individually, so that’s not what he started with. But his attitude, although he hasn’t played recently and there are five central defenders in the club, has been fantastic in terms of training every day,” Lampard also said at his press conference.
