A Coalition of Civil Society and Pro-democracy groups under the aegies of Campaign for Democracy (CD) wants the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to be more proactive in intelligent gathering to end insurgency/armed banditry, conflicts between farmers/herders that have continued to claim lives and properties of innocent Nigerians.

The Coalition also wants the government to come up with a workable policy to provide subsidy for agricultural production to ensure not only food security but save Nigerians from poverty, hunger and starvation in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For Nigerians to take the present government more serious as a government that listens and acts according to democratic tenets, CD said it is important for the federal government to create an enabling environment for the inclusion of more women and youths.

The Coalition in a statement signed by Niger state Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi and his Secretary, Kehinde Afolabi, attributed policies that never favoured women and youths to be responsible for lack of job opportunities and wealth creation needed to check all forms of crime and criminalities among especially unemployed youths.

The group also condoled with families of soldiers and other security forces that have paid the supreme price with their lives trying to protect the territorial intergrity of Nigeria hence the need for the government to evolve a more holistic approach to issues of security.

As part of strategies to end sectoral agitations, CD who commended the 9th Senate for the on-going modalities for the 1999 constitutional review, said it is important a new constitution be able to address peculiar challenges of the diverse segments of the Nigerian society and their contributions to national growth and development.

What Nigeria and Nigerians are yearning for is true federalism which provides for good governance without bias to; equity, justice and fairness to all, this according to the Coalition will bring about peace and unity amongst the multi-ethnic and religious diversities in Nigeria.

In the spirit of June 12, CD said, “We are still demanding for true federalism, devolution of powers, decentralisation of security (community policing) and regional government to face the 21st century challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation”.

While commending the President for gazzeting June 12 as public holiday, the Coalition nevertheless, “Demand for progressive leadership with vision driven policies and programme of activities, good governance, transparency and accountability from those elected to pilot the affairs in all three tiers of government”.
