On Monday, the National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture, and Wood Workers in Kano State initiated a three-day industrial action. The union stated that the strike aims to bring attention to its demands, particularly concerning the implementation of the Wage Award agreed upon by the Federal Government and organized Labour.
General Secretary Comrade Ibrahim Walama, in a statement provided to goldennewsng, highlighted the necessity of the action due to employers’ reluctance to engage in discussions with the union on the aforementioned wage implementation.
The decision to go on a warning strike was reached at the joint NEC Meeting of NUCECFWW/CCESSA on January 25, 2024. The union directed all members to participate in the three-day strike starting from Monday, February 5, 2024, as an initial step to emphasize their demands.
Members were urged to ensure total compliance, and further information and directives were advised to be checked on the union’s relevant platforms. It’s worth noting that the Nigerian Labour Congress had previously instructed its affiliates to withdraw services nationwide from midnight on November 14, 2023.
