This move by the military echoes previous actions taken against criminal elements, such as the declaration of 19 bandit leaders as wanted with bounties in November 2022. While no specific bounties have been placed on the 97 individuals named in this latest declaration, the focus remains on bringing them to justice.

The list of wanted individuals spans regions affected by various forms of criminality. In the North West, notorious figures associated with banditry, including Alhaji Shingi, Malindi Yakubu, and Bello Turji, are among those sought by authorities. Similarly, in the North East, where Boko Haram and Islamic State for West Africa Province terrorists operate, figures like Abu Zaida and Modu Sulum are on the wanted list.

Additionally, the declaration extends to the South East and North Central regions, where 21 individuals, including Simon Ekpa and Chika Edoziem, have been identified as wanted for their involvement in terrorist activities and other violent crimes. The comprehensive nature of the DHQ’s announcement underscores the seriousness with which security forces are addressing threats to national security posed by these individuals.
