The Delta State Government has warned that civil servants found to have falsified their age or abandoned their duty posts will be dismissed from service, with illegally earned salaries recovered.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, issued the warning during a press briefing in Asaba while giving updates on the ongoing civil service screening exercise. He stressed that the move is part of the state’s efforts to restore discipline and accountability in the public service.

According to Aniagwu, the government is determined to eliminate fraudulent practices, including cases where workers deliberately remain on the payroll despite not being physically present at their duty stations. “Those who cheated the system will be shown the way out, and whatever money they collected illegally will be recovered,” he said.

The commissioner also used the briefing to address other issues concerning governance. He confirmed that a recent government delegation to Brazil was targeted at securing investment in agriculture, ranching, renewable energy, and industrial development. “Our goal is to create jobs, enhance security, and improve the standard of living of our people,” he noted.

On the civil service dress code, Aniagwu clarified that the directive was not new but a reminder of existing rules. “The civil service is a regimented institution. Government only insists on decency and professionalism in dressing while on duty,” he explained.

He dismissed rumours of disputes among members of the state executive council, describing them as baseless and politically motivated distractions. “No commissioner has engaged in any form of fight. Such reports are fabrications by detractors who cannot fault the administration’s performance,” he said.

Aniagwu reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on development and the welfare of citizens. “This government is people-focused and result-driven. We will not be distracted by misinformation. Our priority is to keep improving the lives of Deltans while positioning the state as a hub for economic growth and sustainable investment,” he added.
