Do i Need JAMB to get Admission into School of Nursing ? Are you considering school of nursing instead of a university, polytechnic, or college of education, you may want to know whether you will need JAMB for schools of Nursing admissions. This post is majorly to answer your curiosity about school of nursing requirements for admission.

Will you need JAMB for the school of Nursing admission? Are schools of Nursing asking for JAMB results before their admissions? Is there any need to write JAMB to process the school of Nursing Admission?

You Don’t Need JAMB For All Schools of Nursing Admissions Yet

Every intending applicant to Nigerian nursing schools should be aware that he or she will not be required to obtain the JAMB form in order to process his or her admission into the colleges.

Nursing schools are fully independent from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). As a result, all nursing schools are not included among the institutions under the board’s armpit.

Institutions under the operations of the JAMB are:

  1. Universities (Federal, State, and Private)
  2. Polytechnics (Federal, State, and Private)
  3. Colleges of Education (Federal, State, and Private)
  4. Colleges of Health (Federal, State, and Private)
  5. Initiative Enterprise Institutes (Federal, State, and Private)

However, some nursing schools that are starting to award ND and HND in Nursing are now requiring prospective students to take the JAMB UTME if they want to pursue their ND/HND nursing courses.

Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Ile-Ife, School of Nursing, Nigerian Army School of Nursing Yaba Lagos, and a few others, for example, require their applicants to obtain UTME in order to be considered as choices in the JAMB exams.

Schools of nursing were, until recently, generally and solely under the armpit of teaching hospitals that are equally under the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. NMCN was the sole governing body that regulates all cadres of nurses and midwives in Nigeria.

However, with the introduction and continual adoption of the award of ND/HND in nursing, admissions into schools of Nursing will be under the administration of the JAMB and NMCN.

It’s important to note that, to date, very many schools of nursing are yet to be accepting JAMB as a prerequisite for their entries. Those doing that, are covered in the post linked above.

Applicants Generally Need JAMB for a University of Nursing

However, if you want to get into a university that offers Nursing/Nursing Science (rather than a nursing school or college), you’ll need to fill out the JAMB form.

As previously stated, all universities (public and private) are subject to the board’s admissions supervision.
As a result, those offering Nursing will require JAMB UTME/DE forms before admitting students.

You Generally Need O’level Results For School of Nursing Admission

Note that O’level results are required for admission to a nursing school.

After indicating that you did not require JAMB for all nursing schools but for all nursing universities, you should understand that the main entry requirements for the three-year basic, general nursing, or ND/HND nursing are O’level results, which include the WAEC, NECO, GCE, and NABTEB.

As a result, nursing schools require applicants to have at least 5 credit passes in the following subjects:

  1. English Language,
  2. Mathematics,
  3. Chemistry,
  4. Biology,
  5. and Physis

Other Schools of Nursing Admission Requirements

If the SSCE requirements are met, it’s important to know that there are more likely requirements by the colleges of Nursing. And these requirements may vary among them.

  1. Applicants must be between 16, 17, 18, and above while seeking the admissions
  2. Applicants should not be pregnant before being admitted. Pregnancy may be accepted during the course but not before.
  3. Applicants should be ready to obtain the admission forms, partake in the entrance exams and interviews before being offered the admissions
  4. Applicants must be medically and mentally fit to be admitted
  5. Applicants shouldn’t be pregnant at the time of entry

Conclusion

It’s not uncommon to believe that you’ll need the JAMB UTME form before being admitted to nursing schools. Some candidates may have attempted to gain admission using their UTME results. This is not true for all nursing schools. Although some are currently requiring JAMB.
