The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has asked Nigerians to respect the judicial system in the interest of peace and harmonious coexistence of the country.

The CAN Chairman in Kaduna, Rev John Hayab, stated this in a statement on Wednesday while reacting to the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) that upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Goldennewsng recalls the court, on Wednesday, affirmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the February 25, 2023, presidential election, as the rightful winner.

The tribunal held that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, did not successfully prove his petition seeking to remove Tinubu from office.

The court also struck out the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for lack of merit.

Speaking further, Hayab called on Nigerians to allow the rule of law to take its course in the overall peace and unity of Nigeria and must not allow themselves to be used to divide the country.

The CAN Chairman in Kaduna said accepting the tribunal judgment and allowing the rule of law to take its course would consolidate the idea of the court as the hope of the common man.

Hayab also urged opposition candidates and all Nigerians to accept the judgment of the tribunal, even if the judgment did not go according to their expectations.

He said: “We should, as Nigerians, respect the judicial system for the interest of peace and harmonious coexistence of the country.

“Nigerians must not allow themselves to be used to divide the country, based on political differences, but unite and work with the person the court rules in his favour to lead the affairs of the land for development to thrive in Nigeria.

“Politicians come and go, but the country remains. Therefore, we must think inward and not allow some selfish individuals to put the country into confusion that could lead to chaos that can result in loss of lives and destruction of property, which could set the country backwards, instead of consolidating Nigeria’s progress.”
