APC Candidate , Monday Okpebholo Applauds Court Decision Voiding PDP’s Primary Election in Edo state.

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming election in Edo State, has commended the Federal High Court’s ruling that invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s primary election which produced Asue Ighodalo as its candidate.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo, nullified the February 22, 2024, PDP primary election on the grounds of excluding 378 delegates who were lawfully entitled to participate. The court’s decision, delivered in response to a suit filed by aggrieved delegates including Hon. Kelvin Mohammed, cited violations of the Electoral Act 2022 and the PDP guidelines during the primaries held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

In a statement released from Senator Okpebholo’s campaign office in Abuja, the APC candidate criticized the PDP, labeling it as a party that operates without regard for democratic norms and internal discipline. He portrayed the court’s judgment as a validation of APC’s readiness and integrity ahead of the gubernatorial polls, asserting that the APC remains the preferred choice of Edo State residents.

Okpebholo called upon Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, to withdraw from the race, accusing him of being misled by Governor Godwin Obaseki. He highlighted issues such as insecurity, unemployment, cultism, floods, poor infrastructure, and disrespect for traditional institutions under the PDP’s governance in Edo State as reasons why voters should favor the APC in the upcoming election.

“I welcome the Federal High Court’s judgment delivered on Thursday,” Senator Okpebholo stated. “This ruling has spared the people of Edo State from further hardships under the PDP’s misrule. The PDP’s internal processes are chaotic and undemocratic, unfit to lead our state. I urge the people of Edo to unite behind the APC to restore the state’s former glory.”

Okpebholo expressed confidence in his administration’s ability to rejuvenate Edo State, promising a return to prosperous times reminiscent of Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure. He emphasized the need to reconnect Edo State with the federal government to ensure the state receives its rightful benefits and opportunities.

“With this court ruling, Edo residents can discern that the APC offers stability and progress,” Okpebholo affirmed. “Our commitment is unwavering, and we pledge to deliver our best for the benefit of all. Together, we will bring positive change through the ballot in September. God bless you all!”

The statement from Senator Okpebholo signals heightened anticipation and strategic positioning as the APC intensifies its campaign efforts in Edo State, aiming to secure victory in the upcoming governorship election.
