Rumors that the embattled governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, will be arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) have reportedly prompted him to return to the country.

Goldennewsng reports that following the investigation into a number of allegations against Emefiele, including corruption and financing terrorism, he left the country for several weeks.

Remember that the DSS had secretly asked the Federal High Court in Abuja for a court order to arrest Mr. Emefiele.

The DSS requested that the court order the CBN governor’s arrest in the application for alleged “acts of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes of national security dimension.”

On December 7, 2022, the DSS presented the application with the number FHC/ABJ/CS/2255/2022 to the court.

The only defendant in the suit, which was filed “ex parte,” meaning that the CBN governor was not informed of it.

A person who spoke with Premium Times, an online news platform, said that the CBN governor got permission from President Muhammadu Buhari to take two weeks off, which ended on Tuesday.

The source stated, “His holidays ended on Tuesday, so he has to report to work on Wednesday.”

In the meantime, the online news platform said that Mr. Emefiele plans to leave the country again soon because he is afraid that the secret police will eventually arrest him because of the Federal Government’s ongoing power play.

According to their source, “he is trying to leave within the next few days on the pretense of attending the annual World Economic Forum.”

However, as of press time on Thursday afternoon, attempts to obtain comments from the spokesperson for the Central Bank of Nigeria, Osita Nwanisobi, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, were unsuccessful.
