#EndSARS: Man demands N10m compensation for the killing of his mother by police.

A Man has  demanded for  N10m compensation for the killing of his mother by police following #EndSARS protest.

GoldenNewsNg reports that a petitioner before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing allegations of human rights abuses against men of the disbanded police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Abayomi Adebayo, has demanded N10m compensation for the killing of his mother by SARS stray bullet in 2016.

Adebayo, who was all tears during his appearance before the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel on Tuesday, lamented that two years after the incident the policemen involved had not been brought to book and his family had not been compensated.

He told the panel that his mother was hit in the head by a stray bullet at her stall in the Mushin area of Lagos, where she fried and sold yam cake.

Adebayo, who described himself as a commercial tricycle operator, said the incident happened shortly after he stopped by his mother’s stall and left on that day.

He said he had not moved far from the stall when sounds of gunshots rented the air and he was told by a friend that the gunshots were being fired by SARS operatives, who had been coming to the area.

Adebayo said some moments later he got a phone call that his mother had been hit by a stray bullet.

He said, “Before I got to the scene, people were already carrying her body to the police station, because she died on the spot.

“She was killed where she was selling things at the tollgate, Mushin.”

The petitioner said the policemen who killed his mother were from Olosan Police Station, adding that the police initially denied responsibility but later admitted and then Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni, paid his family a condolence visit.

He said though Owoseni pledged that his family would get justice, two years after still nothing had been done.

The petitioner said he was also most pained to find the corpse of his mother lying on the floor, when he visited the Yaba mortuary where the body was taken.

Asked what he wanted the panel to do for him, Adebayo said his family wanted compensation in the sum of N10 Million Naira.

The panel adjourned the matter till December 8, 2020.
