Asma’u Iganus, the lawmaker representing Shongom Constituency in the Gombe State House of Assembly has defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Iganus who is the lone female lawmaker of the 24-member Assembly, defected with over 2,000 others to the governing All Progressives Congress.
She was elected in 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. There are now only 3 PDP lawmakers in the assembly.
Iganus who spoke about her defection at Lapan, Shongom Local Government Area, said she made the decision due to the development strides of Governor Yahaya, as well as his leadership style.
The lawmaker said;
“We are with you and we are happy to identify with your administration because of the developmental projects you brought to Shongom LGA and to Gombe State entirely.”
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who led chieftains of the All Progressives Congress to the civic reception of Iganus, expressed excitement over her defection.
He said;
“Even before she made her decision to join the APC, she once came to me and presented a complaint about the need to reconstruct a bridge in her constituency and I granted her wish and did the work without any hesitation.”
Yahaya said the defection of Iganus with over 2,000 supporters will help create an atmosphere of sustainable socio-economic and infrastructural development that would in the long run create jobs for the teeming youths of the State.
