FG Launches NIYA Gigs Program 2025 – Step-by-Step Guide to Apply and Earn from Digital Skills

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially opened the NiYA Gigs Program 2025, a bold initiative under the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) aimed at empowering young Nigerians with digital skills and connecting them to freelance opportunities locally and globally.

This program is part of the administration’s broader commitment to equipping Nigerian youths for success in the global digital economy. Through NiYA Gigs, qualified youths can gain remote jobs, build portfolios, access mentorship, and earn sustainable income — all without leaving their communities.

What is the NIYA Gigs Program?

The NiYA Gigs Program is a national youth-focused digital platform developed to:

  • Bridge the gap between skills and employment

  • Equip Nigerian youth with in-demand digital skills

  • Connect them to paid freelance gigs and remote job opportunities

  • Offer structured mentorship and ongoing support

It’s one of the flagship programs of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), which was launched in March 2025 by the Vice President to reduce youth unemployment, promote entrepreneurship, and position Nigeria as a competitive hub in the global digital space.

Why the NIYA Gigs Program Matters

With Nigeria’s large and growing youth population, digital transformation offers a powerful path to employment and self-reliance. The NiYA Gigs Program directly addresses some of the country’s biggest youth challenges:

  • Limited access to global job markets

  • Skill-job mismatch

  • Unemployment and underemployment

  • Lack of portfolio-building opportunities for freelancers

By removing geographical and economic barriers, this program helps young people in underserved areas gain visibility, earn remotely, and compete globally.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the NiYA Gigs Program 2025, applicants must:

  • Be Nigerian

  • Possess one or more digital or freelance-ready skills, such as:

    • Graphic design

    • Writing and content creation

    • Website or mobile development

    • Virtual assistance

    • Voice-over artistry

    • UI/UX design

    • Video editing

    • Social media management

    • Other digital or technical skills

No degree is required. Youths with informal or self-taught digital skills are encouraged to apply.

Benefits of the NiYA Gigs Program

Successful applicants will have access to:

  • Verified freelance job opportunities on local and international platforms

  • Capacity-building and skill enhancement workshops

  • Mentorship from digital professionals and entrepreneurs

  • Portfolio support and visibility for international gigs

  • Access to a national network of freelancers and innovators

  • A roadmap to consistent, sustainable income through digital work

Focus Areas of the Program

The NiYA Gigs initiative operates across three strategic pillars:

1. Education & Skill Development

Providing world-class training in digital literacy, tech skills, entrepreneurship, and the creative industry.

2. Economic Empowerment

Enabling financial independence through access to jobs, funding, and support services.

3. Leadership & Civic Engagement

Building young leaders through engagement in governance, policy dialogue, and community-building.
