FG Opens Application Portal for Accreditation of Trainers Under TVET Program

The Federal Government, through NBTE, has opened applications for trainers under the TVET program. Learn how to register and get accreditation for funding.

FG Launches TVET Accreditation for Trainers Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has opened the TVET Accreditation Portal to register and accredit trainers, vocational institutions, and mastercraft persons. This initiative aligns with the nationwide rollout of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Program, designed to equip Nigerians with industry-relevant skills for economic growth and job creation.

What is the NBTE and Its Role in TVET?

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is a government agency under the Federal Ministry of Education responsible for regulating Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Nigeria. Established by Act No. 9 of January 11, 1977, NBTE plays a crucial role in developing skilled manpower to support Nigeria’s National Development Plans.

Who Can Apply for TVET Accreditation?

The Federal Government is calling on:

  • Skill Training Centres (STCs)
  • Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs)
  • Mastercraft Persons (MCPs)

Accreditation will enable these institutions and individuals to receive government funding to train candidates under the TVET Program.

Registration Requirements for TVET Accreditation

1. Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs)

  • Must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
  • Must adopt National Skills Qualification (NSQ)-Based Curricula.
  • Must have at least one qualified instructor per trade.
  • Must maintain a 1:40 instructor-to-student ratio.
  • Each trade must have a Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA).
  • Must have an Internal Quality Assurance Manager (IQAM) or engage a part-time personnel if necessary.

2. Skill Training Centres (STCs)

  • Must be CAC-registered.
  • Must implement NSQ-Based Curricula.
  • Each program requires a qualified instructor or a senior artisan with at least NSQ Level 3 certification.
  • Must have at least one QAA.
  • Must have one certified IQAM or engage part-time personnel if needed.

3. Mastercraft Persons (MCPs)

  • Must have either CAC registration or a National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Must adopt NSQ-Based Curricula.
  • Must have at least one qualified instructor or an experienced artisan with NSQ Level 3 certification.
  • Training facilities must include workshops and restrooms.
  • Must have records of past training programs and certifications awarded.

Residents of a Lagos estate were left in shock on Thursday night after a young woman, Deborah Porsche, popularly known as Debporsche, was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend, identified simply as Lintex, nearly a year after their breakup. According to reports, Lintex had repeatedly threatened Deborah since their split in August 2024, allegedly vowing: “If I don’t have you, nobody will. Security guards reportedly stopped him at the gate, but he scaled the fence and gained entry to Deborah’s apartment. Eyewitnesses said Lintex first tampered with the gas cylinder line outside the apartment, allegedly trying to cause an explosion. When that failed, he forced his way inside and stabbed Deborah multiple times with a knife he brought along. Alarmed neighbours rushed to the scene and alerted the police. The suspect was subdued and handed over to law enforcement officers. Police authorities have confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing. Deborah’s tragic death has sparked outrage online and renewed calls for stronger legal protections for women against abusive and obsessive partners.
