FG to Declare October 1 Public Holiday for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary
The Federal Government is set to declare Tuesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
GoldenNewsNg gathered that the announcement will be made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
As part of the celebrations, President Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast at 7:00 a.m. on Independence Day, where he is expected to highlight his reform agenda and reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1960.
The traditional Independence anniversary parade will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited dignitaries in attendance.
The Presidency had earlier unveiled a line-up of activities under the theme: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
Festivities began on Sunday, September 28, with an inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, and continued on Monday, September 29, with a world press conference at the National Press Centre, Radio House.
The week-long celebration will conclude on Friday, October 3, with the unveiling of the National Values Charter (NVC) and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate at the State House Conference Centre.
