Fresh details have emerged regarding the allegations leveled against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
On June 9, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the decision to suspend Emefiele from his role as CBN governor.
According to an article published by The Punch, Emefiele, along with his aides and other high-ranking officials, will face questioning in relation to the following allegations:
- Granting loans worth billions of naira to farmers under the Fadama scheme.
- Controversial sale of Polaris Bank.
- Alleged financing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
- Allegations related to forex fraud.
Citing a source within the Department of State Services (DSS), as reported by The Punch, it has been revealed that the secret police have assembled a proficient team of interrogators who will question Emefiele regarding the following accusations:
- Alleged involvement in financing terrorism.
- Mismanagement of the CBN and the economy.
- Naira redesign policy, among other matters.
The source also mentioned that the DSS is considering obtaining a court order to detain Emefiele, which would allow for unrestricted interrogation.
According to a report by Leadership newspaper, security sources have disclosed that Emefiele is expected to face charges in court next week.
The security sources further stated that Emefiele has been embroiled in a contentious dispute with the DSS over allegations of terrorism financing, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes that could potentially impact national security. Additionally, there are claims of mismanagement in relation to the CBN subsidiary, NISRAL, and the Anchor Borrowers Programme.

In a recent development, the Department of State Services (DSS) has officially confirmed the arrest of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Initially, the DSS had denied Emefiele’s custody in a tweet on Saturday, June 10. However, the recent confirmation from the DSS indicates that Emefiele is indeed under arrest.
