The Tertiary Institutions Energy Pitch Challenge (TIEC) is an initiative aimed at fostering student-led clean energy innovations, raising awareness, and encouraging investments within higher education institutions in Nigeria.
Co-created by NEF and sponsored by All On, an impact investment firm, TIEC2024 is set to bring together impactful energy innovations from student teams across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Shortlisted teams will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas live in-person or in a hybrid format at the 9th Nigeria Energy Forum, to be held at Marcellina Centre, Along Radisson Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, Nigeria.
Winning teams will be awarded a share of over 3 million Naira.

Eligibility
To participate in TIEC2024, teams must meet the following criteria:
- Formed by undergraduate or masters students registered in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, including universities, polytechnics, technical colleges, and other degree-awarding institutions.
- Encouraged to form teams across different departments or faculties within an institution to promote collaboration and innovation.
- Each team must be mentored by a faculty or institutional staff member. Additionally, student chapters of professional institutions such as IEEE, NiMechE, NSE, and others are encouraged to apply.
- Gender equity and balance in team composition are strongly encouraged and must be implemented across all stages of the project.
Benefits
Winning teams will receive a share of 3.5 million Naira in USD grants to pilot or upscale project prototypes, distributed as follows:
- First Prize: 1.5 Million Naira
- Second Prize: 1.1 Million Naira
- Third Prize: 0.9 Million Naira
Additionally, each shortlisted team will receive complimentary registration, hotel accommodation, and travel/logistics support for at least two student representatives (comprising at least one female and one male) and one faculty staff member to fully participate in NEF2024 technical, training, networking, capacity building sessions, and Live Pitch Finals scheduled for Tuesday, 9 July 2024 in Lagos.
Application Process
The application process for TIEC2024 consists of three stages:
- Submission of a Pitch Deck (maximum of 7 slides) outlining the idea, problem statement, innovation potential, and impact.
- Shortlisted entries will be invited to present a Poster illustrating the concept, technical design, delivery plan, and cost/benefit analysis at NEF2023 Day 1.
- Finalists will be required to submit a 90-second video pitch summarizing their innovation.
