Ebonyi Government Raises Civil Servants’ Salary by N10,000
According to a report from Newsonline Nigeria, the Ebonyi State Government has announced an increase of N10,000 in the salaries of civil servants. This move aims to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal. Mr. Chikadibia Okpor, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, made the announcement to journalists after the Executive Council Meeting held on Friday in Abakaliki.
During the meeting, the issue of workers’ salaries was discussed and deliberated upon by the Executive Council. As a result, it was decided that an additional sum of N10,000 would be granted to every worker in the state to help alleviate the effects of fuel subsidy removal. Mr. Okpor stated, “The sum of N10,000 will be added to every worker’s salary in the state to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.”
In addition to the salary increase, the Commissioner informed the press that Governor Francis Nwifuru has instructed Prof. Grace Umezuruike, the Secretary to the State Government, to review the finances of Ebonyi State University with regards to subvention. Furthermore, the Executive Council approved the employment of 1,454 individuals to fill vacant positions in the state civil service that have accumulated over the years.
Addressing the water challenges in the state, the Commissioner mentioned that a directive had been given to the Commissioner for Water Resources to take necessary actions to ensure a steady water supply in Abakaliki. “We hope that the problem of water will come to an end in the state,” he expressed optimistically.
