More Chibok girls has escaped from Boko Haram captivity
GoldenNewsNg gathered that some of the Chibok girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno since 2014 in Borno state have escaped from captivity.
The parent of one of the escapees, Halima Ali, informed Daily Trust on Thursday, January 28, that he has been contacted by security officials on the development. Confirming this, the secretary of the Chibok Parents Association, Lawal Zannah, revealed that he got news of the escape but is yet to ascertain the number.
Zannah stated: “We heard that some of our girls have escaped from the forest, but we are yet to get the detail about their number.”
Moreover, sources close to Halima’s father, Ali Maiyanga, told journalists that family members and friends have trooped to his house to congratulate him.
According to the report, Halima was married off to a commander in the proscribed group by the instruction of Abubakar Shekau, the wanted leader. Meanwhile, a former Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, had said that President Muhammadu Buhari made a well-informed decision in his choice of new service chiefs.
Shetimma, on Thursday, January 28, claimed that this set of national security heads would eventually win the war against terrorism in the country provided it got the needed support and cooperation from citizens. The senator representing Borno Central said having had sound knowledge of the proficiency of each of the new service chiefs, he was optimistic that they would end the reign of Boko Haram, especially in the state.
The senator said: “I have interacted with some of them and I can attest to the character and professionalism. General Leo Irabor (the chief of defence staff), is one of the finest officers the Nigerian army has produced in recent times.”
