A Nigerian man identified to be a police officer has been killed in Cross River State on Saturday.
GoldenNewsNg reports that the officer was reportedly been killed by unknown gunmen at Edgerton Street, Calabar, Cross River State.
The Cross River Police Command who confirmed the development identified the deceased officer as Sgt. Peter Ikwen.
SP Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said assailants took the officer’s rifle.
“I have just gathered that a police sergeant was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Saturday and his rifle was taken away by the assailants,” she said.
She told NAN that investigation has begun with a view to unravelling those behind the act which, she described, as condemnable.
