Hardship in Nigeria: Customs to distribute seized food items nationwide
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its initiative to distribute seized food items across the nation in an effort to mitigate the ongoing food crisis. CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations officer, confirmed that the food items would be distributed once they are deemed safe for consumption.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Maiwada explained that the NCS aims to ease the difficulties experienced by Nigerians by improving access to essential food items. This will be done by directly disposing of food items forfeited to the Federal Government, ensuring they reach ordinary Nigerians through equitable distribution across various operational areas.
The NCS has assured the public of transparency, fairness, and safety in the distribution process, with plans to communicate the modalities through its nationwide formations. The organization is dedicated to conducting this exercise diligently to benefit those most in need.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to support President Bola Tinubu’s food security agenda. The NCS emphasizes its core mandate to serve the Nigerian people’s best interests, aiming to promote economic stability and prosperity through this and other actions.
