Hate Speech bill targeted at the perceived opponents of the APC-led government- PDP says

According to PDP, the Hate Speech law will solely notice house in Hitler’s Germany, Mussolini’s Italy, Idi Amin’s of Uganda and not during this era or during a democratic state like Nigeria. The party challenged the proponents of the bill to begin by inculpative and setting penalties for those behind the ‘body bag’ comments furthermore because the ‘baboon and also the dog blood’ narrative, that LED to bloody unrest and also the death of the many innocent Nigerians.

Read the party’s statement below

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns, in it entireness, the savage, repressive, cruel and homicidal intents of the hate speech ‘prohibition’ bill, that seeks demanding penalization, as well as death by hanging as penalty.

In as much because the PDP doesn’t excuse hate speech underneath any color, our party rejects the bill as unconstitutional, monarchic and a barbarous style targeted at official extermination of voice of dissent and perceived opponents of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led central.

The PDP notes that the nation already has enough constitutional provisions and existent laws to safeguard a sane and healthy public expression house and can’t permit such cruel law devised to victimize and bedevil the voters, apparently as a regime protection live.

Such laws will solely notice house in Hitler’s FRG, Mussolini’s Italy, Idi Amin’s Uganda and not during this era or during a democratic state like Nigeria.

The resurfacing of the cruel bill within the Senate, when Nigerians vehemently rejected it last year, solely points to the incurable desperation of the APC central to suppress and crush the desire of the voters in the slightest degree price.

The party seen that the provisions of the bill are deliberately hazy and nebulous with the malicious intention to victimize innocent Nigerians.

Such offensive laws area unit characteristics of illustrious anti-democratic regimes, as prelude to their suspension or abolishment of constitutional provisions to line the stage for totalitarianism.

Our party holds that, if allowed to pass, the hate speech ‘prohibition’ bill, with its savage provisions, would destroy our democratic order, strip our constitutional provisions, the rights of voters and lead off a full-blown despotism in Nigeria.

The PDP challenges the proponents of the bill to begin by inculpative and setting penalties for those behind the ‘body bag’ comments furthermore because the ‘baboon and also the dog blood’ narrative, that LED to bloody unrest and also the death of the many innocent Nigerians.

Our party thus cautions the APC and its central to retrace their steps and withdraw the vesicatory bill.

The PDP conjointly charges the National Assembly to shield our nation by abandonment the bill and, if something, use its legislative instruments to strengthen our institutions and authorities vested with regulation of public expression in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
