The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the positive impact of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) on the institution and its students.
In a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Okechuku Onuchuku, the university described the intervention as a “game-changer” in addressing financial barriers that have long hindered access to higher education.
Prof. Onuchuku noted that the scheme has eased the burden on students who might otherwise have abandoned their studies due to financial hardship. He added that the initiative is also helping the university strengthen its academic programmes and create a more enabling environment for teaching, learning, and research.
“NELFUND has restored hope to many of our students. It has provided timely financial relief, while also reinforcing the government’s commitment to building a knowledge-driven economy. At IAUE, we are already witnessing improvements in student welfare and academic growth as a result of this intervention,” he said.
The university further stated that the scheme aligns with its long-term vision of producing graduates equipped with the skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Across the country, NELFUND has begun disbursing loans to students in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Education stakeholders say the programme represents a major step towards equitable access to learning opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians from less privileged backgrounds.
The management of IAUE pledged its continued support for the scheme, describing it as an important pillar in the drive to empower students, strengthen institutions, and accelerate Nigeria’s development agenda.
