The inspector general of police has ordered the unconditional release of all demonstrators arrested during protests against police brutality.
This was a key demand of the 5 which protesters requested, who have rallied against the rogue Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in major cities for seven days.
It’s been reported that at least 10 people have killed in the protests. A claim rebuffed by the police chiefs.
Protests have continued despite President Muhammadu Buhari announcing on Sunday the disbandment of Sars.
Protesters responded to that announcement with scepticism, stating that this isn’t the first time such an announcement has been made and they believed that Sars officers were still deployed.
Today, Protesters marched in the oil hub of Port Harcourt in defiance of a ban on demonstrations imposed by the state governor Wike.
Although, the governor had a change of heart and surprisingly joined in the protests.
Protests were also held in the commercial hub, Lagos, the country’s capital, Abuja, and four other cities today.
