JAMB has Awarded ₦710 Million to Six Tertiary Institutions for Outstanding Admission Practices

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has awarded a total of ₦710 million to six tertiary institutions across Nigeria under the 2025 National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M), recognising their adherence to admission guidelines and excellence in admission processes.

The announcement was made during JAMB’s annual policy meeting on admissions held in Abuja, where winners from the 2023 and 2024 admission cycles were formally presented with their awards.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, emerged as the overall best-performing institution, securing 14 points in the evaluation and receiving a ₦500 million award. The University of Ilorin came second with nine points and received ₦75 million, while Nile University of Nigeria, a private university based in Abuja, ranked third with six points and was awarded ₦25 million.

In the polytechnic category, Kaduna Polytechnic was named the best-performing institution with a score of 10 points, earning ₦50 million. The Federal College of Education, Zaria, led the Colleges of Education category with 18 points and also received ₦50 million. In the Innovation Enterprise Institution (IEI) category, PEFTI Film Institute, Lagos, topped the list with four points and received ₦10 million.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the selection process was based on five key performance indicators, including compliance with the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), inclusiveness, equity, and transparency in admissions. Other criteria included the number of admission-seeking candidates, geographical spread of admitted students, and efforts to admit foreign students and improve gender balance.

Prof. Oloyede noted that institutions must have admitted at least 1,500 students to be eligible for the awards.

The NATAP-M initiative, which began in 2018, is part of JAMB’s broader effort to promote fairness, merit, and integrity in the tertiary education admissions process in Nigeria.

“This award is our way of recognising institutions that follow due process, demonstrate transparency, and uphold the principles of equity and merit,” the registrar said.

The board reaffirmed its commitment to improving admission practices nationwide and urged other institutions to emulate the winners.
