Agricultural Engineering, also known as agricultural and biosystems engineering, combines various engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, electrical, food science, environmental, software, and chemical engineering to enhance farm productivity, promote agribusiness sustainability, and ensure the conservation of natural and renewable resources.

It is a field of study and application of engineering principles for agricultural purposes. Agricultural engineers often collaborate with agriculturists, who possess extensive knowledge of farming and agricultural science, to develop engineering ideas and plans for agricultural projects.

JAMB Subject Combination For Agricultural Engineering:

The following are the four JAMB subject combinations required for studying Agricultural Engineering at any university in Nigeria:

  • Use of English
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

WAEC/O LEVEL Subject Combination For Agricultural Engineering:

To study Agricultural Engineering, you need the following subjects in your WAEC or O LEVEL exams:

  • Mathematics (Minimum – Credit)
  • English Language (Minimum – Credit)
  • Physics (Minimum – Credit)
  • Chemistry (Minimum – Credit)
  • Civic Education
  • Computer Studies
  • Agricultural Science (Minimum – Credit)
  • Biology
  • Woodwork (Optional)

Admission Requirements:

Applicants interested in Agricultural Engineering must fulfill the following requirements:

  • A minimum of five (5) WASSCE credit passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and one of the following subjects: Introduction to Agricultural Science, Materials and Workshop Processes, Machining, Tractor Layout, Power Unit Undercarriage and Auto Electricity, Transmission System, Implement and Machine, Principles of Crop Husbandry and Land Use, Materials and Workshop Processes, Construction and Maintenance of Agricultural Machines, and General Knowledge.
  • Direct entry applicants must have a minimum of two (2) A-Level passes in Mathematics and Physics.
  • NCE applicants must have an ND/HND higher credit at the appropriate levels.
