Biological Sciences encompasses the study of life, living organisms, their life cycles, adaptations, and environments. It encompasses various fields of research such as biochemistry, microbiology, and evolutionary biology.

Biologists investigate life at different levels of organization, from cellular molecular biology to the anatomy and physiology of plants and animals, to population development. As scientists, biologists collect data by making observations, asking questions, formulating theories, conducting experiments, and drawing conclusions.

JAMB Subject Combination for Biological Sciences:

The compulsory and correct UTME subjects required in JAMB to study Biological Sciences are:

  • Biology
  • Use of English
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

WAEC Subjects Combination for Biological Sciences:

The required subjects in WAEC for Biological Sciences include:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Any other Science subject

UTME Requirements to Study Biological Sciences in Nigeria:

To enroll in a Biological Sciences program in Nigeria, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have at least five credits in your O’level results (from a WAEC or NECO exam), including English and Mathematics, taken in not more than two sittings. Some schools may require a single sitting.
  • Attain the age of sixteen (16) by the last day of October in the year of admission.
  • Fulfill the Biological Sciences graduation requirement of your chosen school.
  • Obtain strong JAMB, WAEC, and, if applicable, post-UTME scores.

Direct Entry Requirements to Study Biological Sciences in Nigeria:

For direct entry into a Biological Sciences program in Nigeria, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a minimum of five (5) credits in the Ordinary Level of the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE/GCE) in a maximum of two sittings.
  • Possess a degree in a related discipline with a First Class or Second Class Upper.
  • Purchase the Direct Admission form from the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
  • Hold an Advanced Level Certificate with a minimum Merit Pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), or any relevant Advanced Level Certificate.
  • Have any additional qualifications equivalent to the above and accepted by the Senate of your chosen university. Candidates must also meet the Faculty/Departmental entry requirements in addition to the minimum admission requirements.
