DStv Announces 19% Price Increase, Effective November 6 -See New Prices

DStv has announced a new round of price adjustments for its subscription packages, marking the second price increase of the year in response to economic challenges and rising inflation rates in Nigeria. This latest increment is set to take effect from Monday, November 6, 2023, and introduces a steeper 19% price increase across its offerings.

Key Points:

  1. Reason for Price Increase:
    • Economic challenges and mounting inflation rates in Nigeria have prompted DStv to raise subscription prices for the second time this year.
  2. DStv Price Adjustments:

For DStv subscribers, the new pricing structure is as follows:

      • Compact+: Monthly cost of the Compact+ bouquet rises by 19% to N19,800 from N16,600.
      • Compact: Subscribers on the Compact package will pay N12,500, reflecting a 19% increase from the previous N10,500.
      • Confam: The Confam package will see a 19% increase, with the monthly cost increasing to N7,400 from N6,200.
      • Yanga: Monthly subscription for DStv Yanga bouquet will be N4,200, a 20% increase from the earlier N3,500.
  3. GOtv Price Adjustments:

GOtv subscribers are also affected by these price changes:

    • GOtv subscribers are also affected by these price changes:
      • Supa Plus: Monthly subscription for Supa Plus increases by 19% to N12,500 from the previous N10,500.
      • Supa: The Supa bouquet is now priced at N7,600, up from N6,400, reflecting a 19% increase.
      • GOtv Max: Subscription has risen to N5,700 from N4,850.
      • Jolli: The monthly cost for the Jolli package is now N3,950, up from N3,300.
      • Jinja: Subscribers on the Jinja package will pay N2,700 monthly, as opposed to the previous N2,250.
  4. Economic Challenges and Inflation:
    • DStv cited economic challenges as the reason for the price increase, with Nigeria experiencing significant inflation. In September, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported an inflation rate of 26.72%.
  5. Company Statement:
    • While DStv has not officially commented on these price increases, the company acknowledged the economic difficulties earlier this year.
    • DStv stated, “Due to the various economic challenges impacting our business operations, we have had to review the price of our packages to continue delighting our customers with great entertainment, anytime and anywhere. DStv acknowledges the difficult economic climate and thus kept the increase at the lowest possible point while ensuring sustainability and provision of quality services.”

Conclusion: These price increases have raised concerns among subscribers, who are seeking ways to manage their entertainment expenses amid economic hardships. The impact of this latest price adjustment will be observed when it takes effect in November 2023.

Man Arrested After Disguising as Dispatch Rider to Murder Ex-Girlfriend in Lagos

Residents of a Lagos estate were left in shock on Thursday night after a young woman, Deborah Porsche, popularly known as Debporsche, was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend, identified simply as Lintex, nearly a year after their breakup. According to reports, Lintex had repeatedly threatened Deborah since their split in August 2024, allegedly vowing: “If I don’t have you, nobody will. If I no marry you, blood go flow.” Deborah’s sister described her as a hardworking interior decorator who had just completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). She further alleged that the deceased endured emotional abuse throughout her relationship with Lintex, which ultimately pushed her to walk away. On the night of the attack, the suspect disguised himself as a dispatch rider in an attempt to infiltrate the estate. Security guards reportedly stopped him at the gate, but he scaled the fence and gained entry to Deborah’s apartment. Eyewitnesses said Lintex first tampered with the gas cylinder line outside the apartment, allegedly trying to cause an explosion. When that failed, he forced his way inside and stabbed Deborah multiple times with a knife he brought along. Alarmed neighbours rushed to the scene and alerted the police. The suspect was subdued and handed over to law enforcement officers. Police authorities have confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing. Deborah’s tragic death has sparked outrage online and renewed calls for stronger legal protections for women against abusive and obsessive partners.
